We're treated to a West Midlands Derby for the Saturday Night Football, as Aston Villa travel across the Midlands to Wolves, fresh from their qualification for the Last 16 of the Champions League. They will do so without 'Super Sub' John Duran who completed his €77 million transfer to Saudi side Al Nassr where he will team up with Cristiano Ronaldo. There has also been interest for the other Villa forward Ollie Watkins, who was subject of a £60 million offer from Arsenal shortly before their clash with Celtic on Wednesday evening, much to the dismay of Villa. There are plenty of distractions as they face Midlands rivals Wolves, but they will still fancy their chances given the precarious position that Wolves find themselves in.
There have been some entertaining clashes between these sides in recent seasons, including the reverse fixture earlier in the season when Villa hauled themselves off the canvas to score three goals in the final 20 minutes to record a 3-1 victory. Throughout the recent renewals of this derby, there has been a large number of cards given with the last four meetings seeing at least 60 booking points. Andy Madley is in charge of this one today, which doesn't fill me with complete confidence that this will continue that trend. However, I can still see there being at least four cards. It is very much a case of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' when it comes to backing a player to be carded here, Villa's Morgan Rogers has picked up a card in five of his last seven matches, taking his total to 21 cards since the start of last season. He was also carded in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, and I was surprised to see 11/2 still available for Villa's Hat-Trick Hero from midweek to pick up yet another card. Another leading contender to find his way into Andy Madley's notebook is Rayan Ait-Nouri, he was another who was carded in the reverse fixture when he was on his way to picking up five yellow cards and one red in the first half of the season. Likely to find himself up against the aforementioned Rogers, I can see this turning into a battle that will never be far from Andy Madley's attention, and feel that both players should do enough to find themselves cautioned, so am happy to have a small play on the 18/1 on offer for them to do just that.
