It's now the turn of Europe's secondary club competition to enjoy it's evening of mayhem when eighteen matches take place concurrently to mark the end of the inaugural League Phase of the Europa League. 28 teams will hope to fill one of the remaining 23 qualification spots for the knockout stages, with only Lazio assured of a place in the Last 16. It's certainly all still to play for, and some intriguing ties await as a result of this.
AJAX VS GALATASARAY
Both Ajax and Galatasaray are assured of a place in the knockout stages going into this final League Phase encounter. However, Galatasaray still maintain a good chance of breaking into the top eight spots, sending them straight into the Last 16. It seems as if a win will do the job for the Turkish side given their strong goal difference and will be motivated more than their opponents here.
The star man for Galatasaray has undoubtedly been striker Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian striker has scored in 12 of his last 15 starts, bagging 15 goals in that time. He will be sure to want to make his presence felt here, and fire his side into the Last 16, so I am happy to take the 5/4 on offer for him to score, given his impressive goalscoring record in a Galatasaray shirt.
ANDERLECHT VS HOFFENHEIM
Belgian side Anderlecht have safely secured their passage into the knockout stages, with an impressive European campaign thus far, and currently occupy one of the fabled top eight spaces in the standings, so will be hoping to get something here to book their ticket to the Last 16. They face a Hoffenheim side who face an uphill battle in order to progress any further in this competition, they will need a win here, and to hope that a number of other results go their way to give them a chance of progressing.
Given the scenario that both sides find themselves in here, I can see this being a open game, Anderlecht have scored at least two goals in ten of their last twelve home matches and will fancy continuing that run against Hoffenheim who have conceded at least twice in nine of their last fifteen matches. Whilst Anderlecht are missing top scorer Kasper Dolberg, I don't see this stopping the Belgian side getting amongst the goals in a game that looks set for goals.
FCSB VS MANCHESTER UNITED
Both Steaua Bucharest and Manchester United sit in the top eight of the league standings heading into this one, and will both hope to secure automatic qualification to the Last 16. It's been a successful return to European competition for Romania's most decorated side, whilst Ruben Amorim's Manchester United have gradually picked up the pace as their European campaign has progressed.
Undoubtedly, FCSB will be looking for a positive result to ensure their spot in the Last 16, and will fancy their chances against what has proved a fragile Man United side. United have conceded in all but two of their matches under manager Ruben Amorim, and I fancy this run to continue away in Romania. The main goal threat for Steaua is Daniel Birligea, and I was surprised to see the 41/10 on offer for him to get on the scoresheet here. The Romanian forward has scored 15 goals in 2,183 minutes this season and I am happy to have a small play at the prices.
MIDTJYLLAND VS FENERBAHCE
One of the more intriguing ties of this final round of League Phase fixtures is Midtjylland vs Fenerbahce, the two sides currently occupy one of the play-off spots. However, they are both in a precarious position heading into this one. Danish side Midtjylland have ten points from their seven matches, and have a two-point cushion over the chasing pack, while Fenerbahce have only nine points and look to require a win here to ensure their progression.
Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce side will have to be at it from the offset here, to ensure they save themselves from the embarrassment of elimination. I fancy them to do just that, and am keen to get top scorer Youssef En-Nesyri onside. I am happy to take the 9/5 on offer for En-Nesyri to get himself on the scoresheet, with the Moroccan having scored 16 goals in 1,657 minutes this season, and ten goals in his last twelve starts. One trend of En-Nesyri is his aerial ability, with nine of his sixteen goals coming with his head, therefore I was surprised to see the generous price of him to score a header here, and am happy to have a small punt on this.
