LIVERPOOL VS ACCRINGTON STANLEY
Accrington Stanley make the short journey to Merseyside to take on Liverpool as their reward for making it to the FA Cup Third Round. John Doolan's side head to Anfield lying 19th in League Two and find themselves only five points above the relegation zone, which would lead to them to falling out of the Football League for the first time in 19 years. It is likely to be a heavily rotated Liverpool side after their first leg defeat to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup being just 64 hours later. There was similar rotation in the early rounds of that competition and some of Liverpool's youngsters will get the chance to impress in front of the Anfield crowd here.
Given the close proximity to Liverpool from Accrington, their squad is littered with Liverpool supporters and this will add just that little bit extra to what is already a massive afternoon for these players' careers. One of those within the Accrington ranks with ties to the hosts is Liam Coyle, he joined Liverpool as a ten year-old before departing the Reds for Accrington in 2021. He has gone on to be a mainstay in the Accrington midfield and will be eager to impress back at Anfield. Coyle averaged 1.38 fouls committed per 90 this season and was booked on his last outing against Premier League opposition when Accrington met Leeds in this competition in 2023. He has picked up six cards in just 1,288 minutes this season and against his boyhood club, I feel he will be keen to make his presence felt. Due to the high chance that this game could get away from Accrington early on, I am keeping the stakes low. Another within Accrington's squad with good prospects of picking up a card is Ben Woods. He has occupied multiple positions on the left side for Accrington and given the seismic task on their hands here, I'd anticipate that this is on the left side of defence. He is likely to be up against Federico Chiesa who's chances have been few and far between since signing from Juventus in the summer. Chiesa will undoubtedly cause Woods problems and I feel that the 4.50 on offer for him to be carded is generous.
LEICESTER CITY VS QUEENS PARK RANGERS
Ruud van Nistelrooy will be looking for his Leicester side to get back to winning ways following a run of five straight defeats, following four points from his first two matches. Their opponents, QPR enter this one having only tasted defeat in one of their last eleven matches, and they'll be confident of causing their Premier League opponents issues. They've hauled themselves to nine points from the Championship drop zone, after being 23rd just eight matches ago.
In what is likely to be a highly contested match, I have been drawn to the price of QPR central midfielder Jonathan Varane, he has picked up 8 cards in his 19 starts this season, including against Premier League opposition in Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup. Varane is no stranger to a card, after being carded 13 times in his short stint in Spain. He has translated this style straight into the English game and represents great value here.
NOTTINGHAM FOREST VS LUTON TOWN
The Premier League high-flyers Nottingham Forest welcome manager-less Luton to the City Ground, where they will be looking to translate their Premier League form to the FA Cup. It is unlikely that either of these sides will be focusing their attention on a cup run, with them both having bigger priorities in their respective league campaigns.
As outlined above, I can't see this being an FA Cup classic given the situations that each side finds themselves in within their league. Therefore, I will be keeping the stakes low. However, I am happy to take a punt on the price of Jordan Clark to pick up a card here. He has already been carded 8 times this season and picked up two cards in Luton's FA Cup campaign last season. Clark has been carded 14 times in 3,440 minutes since the start of last season and should be priced around 3.70 to pick up one here, so I am happy to have a small play on him at 5.00.
SUNDERLAND VS STOKE CITY
The feeling of déjà vu with be rife amongst both the Sunderland and Stoke camps, these sides met twice last month in the Championship, and meet again here for the third time in just 35 days. It is one apiece in terms of victories and I am sure both of these sides will be keen for a cup run.
There are plenty of suspects within the Player Card market here and with referee Elliot Bell averaging 4.13 cards per game in the last two seasons, I am keen to take advantage. Stoke midfielder Wouter Burger has picked up 18 cards since signing for the Potters at the start of last season and is averaging 2.21 fouls committed per 90 this season. Burger should be priced up at 3.85, so am happy to get involved at 4.60. Another player who represents good value is Andrew Moran, the Republic of Ireland international was carded against Sunderland when the met last time out, and has committed 3 fouls in both meetings with the Black Cats this season. He has been carded 8 times in his 19 starts for Stoke and the 5.50 on offer is very generous. The Potters' right back Junior Tchamadeu is another who is very generously priced within the market, Tchamadeu has been a magnet for cards throughout his career so far and this has not changed since swapping Colchester for Stoke, he has picked up 15 cards since the start of last season in just 3,302 minutes. I am happy to take the 4.00 on offer here.
REAL VALLADOLID VS REAL BETIS
Real Valladolid find themselves rooted to the foot of the La Liga table. However, they are only four points from safety. They meet a Real Betis side who will be hoping to pile on the misery for Valladolid here and keep up the pressure on the European places.
Real Betis sit in third when it comes to fouls drawn in La Liga this season, and against a Valladolid side averaging 12.8 fouls committed per game. The main protagonist when it comes to fouls in the Valladolid ranks is Kike Perez, the Spaniard is committing 2.63 fouls per 90 this season and has picked up 6 yellow cards in the process. Perez has been carded twice in his six previous appearances against Betis, and I back that to continue here. Valladolid's Moroccan, Selim Amallah is another who is no stranger to a card. However, he is recovering from injury once again, and his minutes have been limited over recent seasons. He has managed just 2,600 minutes since the start of the 2022/23 season, but has managed 13 cards in that time. His price should be coming out at around 2.90, so am happy to take the 3.55 on offer here.
ESPANYOL VS LEGANES
A relegation six-pointer awaits for Espanyol and Leganes on their return to La Liga action this weekend. Leganes enjoyed a win at the Nou Camp prior to the winter break, but did follow this with an ill-disciplined 5-2 defeat at home to Villarreal in their last game before the break. They do however find themselves outside of the relegation zone. Although, the same cannot be said for their opponents Espanyol, who have won just one of their last nine La Liga matches.
Given the stakes of the game, I can see there being plenty of cards handed out, and there is some good value to be had in the Espanyol ranks. Both Marash Kumbulla and Pol Lozano have picked up six cards in La Liga this season and both represent great value to make this seven against Leganes. The former has seen minutes limited across the last few seasons, but has still managed to clock up 18 cards in just 3,997 minutes since the start of the 2021/22 season, therefore, I am happy to take advantage of the 3.80 on offer here as this should be priced around 3.45. Lozano is never far from the referee's attention, committing 2.80 fouls per 90 so far this season and with 12 yellow cards to his name in the last two seasons, it is hard to see how he will not be amongst the action here.
SEVILLA VS VALENCIA
Sevilla and Valencia are at an unfamiliar end of the La Liga table, with both sides occupying two of the bottom seven places. Valencia have seen an improvement in the two games under new manager Carlos Corberan, and came within seconds of a point against Real Madrid in his first match. Sevilla are suffering a bad season by their standards and sit eight points off the European spots.
Sevilla defender Kike Salas has become a mainstay in the Sevilla defence across the last two seasons and has picked up 13 yellow cards in that time. Given his record at picking up cards, his price of 3.75 is far too good to turn down. Salas is also no stranger to a card against Valencia, picking up a yellow card which then became a straight red card in one of his two previous appearances against Los Ches.
