Despite the absence of manager Eddie Howe, Newcastle brushed Man United aside with consummate ease on Sunday afternoon with a clinical home performance, punishing the errors of stand-in goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. That win moved the Magpies into fourth place in the Premier League, with a game in hand over third placed Nottingham Forest, and the chance to leapfrog the highflying outfit. That chance comes here, at home to Crystal Palace, with the Geordies looking to put some daylight between themselves and sixth place. It will be another match where they are without their manager, but that didn't seem to phase them given their level of performance on Sunday. For the visitors, they'll be looking to bounce back from relinquishing a two-goal lead away at Manchester City in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off. That really put pay to any outside chance that the Eagles had of challenging the European places in the Premier League, meaning their only remaining chance of bringing European football to Selhurst Park next season comes by way of the FA Cup. Their upcoming Semi-Final in that competition will undoubtedly be at the forefront of their minds in the coming days, and therefore it wouldn't be a surprise to see the home side get a comfortable win here.
As mentioned above, the priorities of both of these sides differ, with the league being very much the focus for Newcastle, whereas Palace's eyes will be cast further afield with a fourth meeting of the season with Aston Villa awaiting them at Wembley just ten days after this match. I was therefore keen to get the hosts onside in some way here and I feel that they could easily get two or three goals in this one. The price on winger Jacob Murphy to score or assist leapt of the page at me with this selection landing in twelve of his last twenty starts. Murphy has seventeen goal involvements in that time, and I was surprised to see 15/8 on offer for him to continue that run. When comparing Murphy's price to be involved in a goal in this one with some of his teammates, I was surprised to see him priced similarly to Sandro Tonali (5 goal involvements in his last 21 starts and Joelinton (4 goal involvements in his last 21 starts). The Newcastle winger also scored and assisted when these two sides met here last season and had a hand in three of his side's four goals in that one. I'll have a small wager on him to repeat that feat in this game as well given the 16/1 on offer.
