The Merseyside Derby says goodbye to Goodison Park on Wednesday evening when league leaders Liverpool look to extend their lead to nine points across Stanley Park. This fixture was postponed in the wake of Storm Darragh back in December, when Sean Dyche was in charge of Everton. We have taken a step back in time during the period since that postponement, and David Moyes once again leads Everton into a cross-city derby.
Should this have been played on it's scheduled afternoon in December, a Liverpool win looked almost a certainty, with the Reds having won fifteen of their previous seventeen matches going into that match. Whilst their form hasn't been derailed massively since then, a Wednesday evening a Goodison Park with David Moyes in the dugout does given Everton an added boost. Whilst I do believe that Liverpool will travel back across the city with three points, I am not interested in getting involved at the prices. I've looked to get involved on the angle that this one will turn into a heated rivalry, and that will undoubtedly level the playing field. My attention was drawn to the price of Iliman Ndiaye to score at 13/2, he is Everton's top scorer this season with eight goals, and whilst that is by no means prolific, five of those eight goals have come in his last ten matches. Ndiaye has scored in three of his four Premier League appearances under Moyes, and I am happy to have a small punt at the price.
Michael Oliver will be the man charged with keeping both sides in order here, he is averaging 4.37 cards per game across the last two seasons, and I feel that he could keep to that average here. He last refereed this fixture in October 2020, where he brandished five yellow cards, and one red card. Having looked at players who have a tendency to get booked in this fixture, I liked the price of Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk. He has been carded in three of his last five appearance against Everton, and with the price on offer, I am happy to get stuck in once again here.
