BEST BETS:

BIRMINGHAM CITY - +1 ASIAN HANDICAP - 1.99 (BET365) - 1PT

Fresh from booking their ticket to the Carabao Cup Final, Newcastle return to cup action when they travel to face runaway League One leaders Birmingham City. Eddie Howe's men will undoubtedly have one eye on their date with destiny in mid-March and I am sure that some rotation will be in order here with a crucial trip to Manchester City up next week. Birmingham have rotated throughout their cup appearances this season. However, with one foot already in the Championship, I'm sure they'll be keen to have a crack at Premier League opposition for the second time this season. The Blues were knocked out of the Carabao Cup against Fulham back in August, but have come on leaps and bounds since then.

Given the likelihood of rotation coming from Newcastle, I am looking to get Birmingham onside in some way. The 1.99 on offer for them to have a goal head start on the Asian Handicap appeals. This means that the only way we will lose is if Newcastle win by two or more goals, with a one goal victory for the Magpies securing us a refund. Birmingham are unbeaten in their last eighteen matches, and have only tasted defeat three times this season. One of those was on the occasion when they welcomed Premier League Fulham to St. Andrews, however, they were still in the midst of a transfer window, where they later signed Fulham goalscorer Jay Stansfield. He has gone on to score 17 goals for Birmingham since his move, and will be keen to test himself out against Premier League opposition, once again. That aforementioned 2-0 defeat to Fulham was the only time that they've been defeated by two or more goals this season, and I back them to keep this run up here against a rotated Newcastle side.
